FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
Some key things to think about are:
- What is the purpose of the partnership?
- What are the rights, responsibilities and obligations of the partners?
- How are profits and losses divided between the partners?
- How are decisions made?
- What happens when a partner wants to leave the business?
Putting together a Partnership Agreement can seem daunting, as it can be difficult to work out which matters to include and how to cover the key risks. It’s a good idea to invest in a lawyer to help with this process, as it can save you from disputes and liability in the long run.
Limited liability partnerships allow two or more partners to work together without the burden of complete responsibility for any other partner’s actions. In other words, some partners can benefit from limited liability, meaning they won’t be personally responsible for the business’ debts.
We have a range of fixed fee Partnership Agreement packages, starting from $900 + GST. These include a Partnership Agreement drafted to meet your business’ needs, phone consultations with a Sprintlaw lawyer, and a complimentary amendment to the draft we provide you.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers who specialise in various areas of law and hold Australian legal practising certificates. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand-qualified lawyers, and they do not currently hold New Zealand practising certificates.
They provide legal services remotely from Australia through our ‘legal consultancy’ model. Under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses, provided they do not provide services in certain ‘reserved’ areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn more about our ‘legal consultancy’ model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practise, being small business and startup law, we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to providing high-quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team trained at leading Australian firms before leaving the traditional corporate law world to join us in creating a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law, and commercial law.
