FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.

They matter most when work is being quoted quickly, jobs vary as they progress, or expectations are being set through emails and conversations rather than one signed contract. Builder terms can record the commercial ground rules before there is a disagreement about price, timing, access, materials or responsibility for changes. For many construction businesses, this document becomes the main reference point across multiple jobs. That makes it important for the wording to reflect how work is actually accepted, scheduled and performed in practice.

Builder terms commonly deal with the work being supplied, pricing structure, deposit or progress payment arrangements, timing expectations, variation procedures, site access, client responsibilities, delays, defects processes, safety-related responsibilities, suspension rights, termination and liability wording. The exact content depends on whether you are acting as a builder, subcontractor or project owner, and whether the terms are used across repeat jobs or for a particular project. Good drafting usually turns on the commercial workflow, not just a generic construction checklist.

That usually turns on how your jobs are won, quoted and delivered. For example, we may need to know whether you use estimates or fixed pricing, whether clients approve variations in writing, who supplies materials, who controls site access, and whether subcontractors are involved. If your terms are meant to apply across many projects, consistency and usability matter. If they are for a specific job, the project structure may matter more. Those details shape the clauses far more than the label of the document.

Sometimes a template can help you spot the broad headings, but it often leaves out the practical issues that create tension on real jobs. Construction work regularly involves changing scope, weather delays, access constraints, material substitutions and disputed extras. If your terms do not deal with those points clearly, you may still be left arguing about what was agreed. Tailored drafting is usually more useful where your quoting process, payment structure or site responsibilities differ from a standard form or where you want terms that match your actual paperwork flow.

They can include contractual wording about who is responsible for certain site-related obligations, notices, cooperation steps and practical safety expectations between the parties. That said, a contract is only one part of the picture. It records responsibilities and allocates risk, but it does not replace the need for proper on-site systems and conduct. This service is for the legal drafting or review of the terms themselves. It does not include ongoing project oversight, site audits, regulator engagement or broader compliance management after the document is delivered.
