Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
The problem is often not flashy wording on its own, but whether the claim creates an impression that the business cannot properly support. Risk commonly arises where a statement is absolute, exaggerated, missing key conditions, or inconsistent with the actual offer. For example, issues can appear in price comparisons, limited-time offers, performance claims, prize promotions or broad statements like best, free or proven. We review the customer-facing message and explain where qualifications, evidence or clearer wording may be needed before the campaign is published.
This service is commonly used by ecommerce brands, hospitality operators, agencies, online businesses and service providers that are launching a campaign, refreshing website copy, promoting a sale or testing a new offer. It is particularly useful when marketing and legal risk overlap, such as influencer promotions, comparative statements, discount messaging or giveaway promotions. If your team has drafted the campaign internally but wants a legal sense-check on the main claims before launch, this review gives you a defined fixed-fee option without moving into a broader advisory retainer.
Yes, we can review the advertising claims used to promote that campaign, including how the prize, eligibility or entry process is described. That said, the terms need to reflect the actual promotion mechanics and prize structure, and permit requirements can vary depending on where and how the promotion runs. This service does not include permit applications or full competition terms. If those pieces are needed, we can flag that during the review and explain the next legal step rather than leaving the issue unclear.
Turnaround depends on the number of claims, the type of campaign and whether supporting context is needed to understand the message properly. A simple review of a few website or social media claims may move faster than a promotion involving discount conditions, prize mechanics or multiple channels. Once you send through the claims and relevant background materials, we can confirm timing. If you are working to a launch date, it is best to mention that upfront so we can tell you what is realistic within the fixed-fee scope.
After the review, you can use the included follow-up opportunity to ask questions about the flagged claims, recommended changes or whether a revised version still raises concern. In many cases, businesses use the advice to update website banners, social posts, landing pages, email copy or in-store promotional wording before launch. If the review uncovers a bigger issue, such as unclear pricing structure or missing promotion terms, we can outline what additional legal work may be appropriate. The service is intended to help you assess risk, not to sign off every part of a campaign.

We operate completely online, which means we can help you wherever you are in New Zealand. We have office spaces in Sydney, and in Melbourne, but our use of technology allows our team members to work remotely from around the world. Our legal team are mostly based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. We also have a London office for Sprintlaw UK.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers, who are specialists in various areas of law and hold an Australian legal practising certificate. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand qualified lawyers and they do not currently hold a New Zealand practising certificate.
They provide legal services working remotely from Australia via our 'legal consultancy' model, through which (under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006) our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses provided they do not provide services in certain 'reserved' areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn a bit more about our 'legal consultancy' model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practice (being small business and startup law), we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to ensuring that we provide high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team have all trained at leading firms, but have left the traditional corporate law world to join us on our mission to create a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
