FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.

This session is usually most useful when you already have a live issue to discuss, such as a supplier contract, client agreement, services deal, software terms, or a renewal that has become one-sided. The value comes from using the hour on a specific document or negotiation stage, not broad background advice. If you can send through the draft, markup, or email chain beforehand, your lawyer can spend the session on the clauses and bargaining points that matter most rather than general theory.

A common problem is focusing on headline price while missing clauses that affect day-to-day risk. That can include broad indemnities, uncapped liability, automatic renewals, vague deliverables, restrictive termination rights, ownership of work product, or payment triggers that do not match how the deal will actually run. In the session, we help you spot which terms are commercially negotiable, which ones create legal exposure if left unchanged, and where a small wording change can materially improve your position.

Not quite. A quick review page is usually centred on reading one contract and reporting on the main issues. This service is more interactive and negotiation-led. It is intended for situations where you want to test a response strategy, decide what to concede, or prepare for a conversation with the other party. We can still discuss the contract wording itself, but the emphasis is on helping you handle the negotiation in real time rather than only giving a written sense-check.

The best preparation is to send the latest draft contract, any tracked changes, and a short note on what the other side is asking for or refusing to change. It also helps to tell us your commercial priorities, such as whether timing, price, exclusivity, liability, or intellectual property ownership is the real sticking point. If there is a meeting or deadline coming up, mention that too. That lets your lawyer focus the discussion on the clauses and trade-offs most likely to affect your next move.

No. This service is for one hour of legal support to help you assess the negotiation, understand the risks, and decide how to respond. It does not include ongoing representation, joining calls with the other party, or taking over the negotiation on your behalf. If the matter becomes more involved and you want continued support, we can discuss a separate scope for that. Tax advice is also outside this fixed-fee.

Submit an enquiry on this page or click 'Get started'. One of our legal consultants will review it within 1 business day and get in touch to understand what you need.

Your consultant will then email you a fixed-fee quote setting out the cost, scope and timing. If you're happy with it, you can accept the quote and sign our engagement letter online.

Once you've accepted, one of our Australian-qualified lawyers will work with you to complete your project. They'll contact you by email or phone if they need anything.

Sprintlaw works on fixed-fee pricing wherever possible, so you can review the scope and cost before you decide whether to proceed. For the Negotiation Support 1 Hour service, pricing starts from $200.00.

After you enquire, a legal consultant will confirm what is included, the expected timing and whether any extra work is needed before you engage us.

We work online, so we can help wherever you are in New Zealand. Our team works remotely, mainly from Australia.

Your work is done by our Australian-qualified lawyers, who hold Australian practising certificates and specialise in business law. None of them are New Zealand lawyers or hold a New Zealand practising certificate.

Sprintlaw NZ Limited is a legal consultancy, not a law firm, and is not regulated by the New Zealand Law Society. We don't act in court or tribunal matters, conveyancing (including leases and business sales) or other reserved areas of work. Communications with Sprintlaw are unlikely to be protected by legal professional privilege. We still keep everything confidential under our engagement letter.
