What is a Service Agreement?
A Service Agreement is an agreement between a company and a service provider where the company pays for receiving services. It typically provides a clear outline of the services, details about payments, and other important protections and limitations specific to the services.

Service Agreements are important for all businesses who want to solidify their business deals. For service providers, a Service Agreement will secure your revenue streams and protect your liability. For customers, a Service Agreement will ensure that you are supplied with the right services at the right time.
Whether it’s for a one-off service or for ongoing services, it’s important to have a Service Agreement to capture what you’ve agreed upon in writing before the service begins. This minimises the risk of disputes arising down the track.
Our fixed-fee Service Agreement packages begin at $1100 + GST. This includes a Service Agreement drafted to meet the requirements of your business, phone consultations with our legal team, and a complimentary amendment to the final draft we provide to you.
A service agreement is a legally binding agreement between two parties. Usually this would be the person providing the service and the person purchasing the service. It basically says that one person will perform a certain service for the other in exchange for payment.
Usually a service agreement contains the following:
Although you’d want everything to go smoothly in the course of business, that doesn’t happen 100% of the time. A written service agreement will ensure that both parties are sure of what is expected of them.
As a business owner, you want to make sure that your contract has sufficient detail and clearly explains what will happen if things do go wrong. For example, if the client is the one that suffers, what will you do to rectify the situation? Alternatively what will happen if the client does not pay you for the services you’ve adequately provided?
The business owner (usually a contractor) and the client who purchases the service.
Service agreements can apply to so many different industries. However, if you are providing any kind of service for someone or you are the recipient of a service, you should have a proper contract in place.
To give a few examples of the service agreements we offer:
The list can go on and on. If you don’t see something exactly you need, we can tailor something that is perfect for your business.
Just submit an enquiry via this page or click the ‘get started’ button on our website to submit an enquiry. After you’ve submitted an enquiry, one of our legal consultants will review your enquiry within 1 business day and get in touch to get a better idea of exactly what you are looking for.
Then your legal consultant will send through an email with a bit more information about the services you need, along with a fixed-fee quote setting out costs, scope of the service and timing. Have a read through it, and if you’re happy with the scope, you can accept and sign our engagement letter online – easy!
Once you’ve formally accepted, we’ll connect you with a specialist lawyer and they will work with you to complete your project. They will contact you by email or phone if they need to get in touch.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers, who are specialists in various areas of law and hold an Australian legal practising certificate. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand qualified lawyers and they do not currently hold a New Zealand practising certificate. They provide legal services working remotely from Australia via our ‘legal consultancy’ model, through which (under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006) our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses provided they do not provide services in certain ‘reserved’ areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn a bit more about our ‘legal consultancy’ model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practice (being small business and startup law), we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to ensuring that we provide high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team have all trained at leading Australian firms, but have left the traditional corporate law world to join us on our mission to create a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
