Frequently asked questions
Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
The issue is often not just the wording on a form, but the gap between what the customer sees and what the business actually does afterwards. Common risk points include pre-selected boxes, consent bundled together with other permissions, vague statements about future promotions, and poor records showing when or how someone agreed. We review both the customer-facing wording and the surrounding process, because the legal position depends on the way your business handles information in practice, not only on the label attached to the checkbox.
This service is commonly useful for businesses that collect leads online, run promotional campaigns, use customer databases for offers, or market through multiple channels such as email, SMS, website forms or account sign-up flows. It can also suit businesses that have grown quickly and want their consent process checked before scaling further. If you already have wording in place but are unsure whether it matches your real collection and marketing practices, a broader review is usually more useful than a narrow document-only check.
We review the consent materials and process you provide within the agreed scope. That can include sign-up forms, checkout permissions, lead capture pages, privacy wording linked to marketing, and the way consent choices are recorded or described internally. You receive legal feedback on likely problem areas, plus practical recommendations for improvement. Where relevant, we can point out whether your process appears to rely on assumptions that may be risky, such as treating all customer contact details as available for ongoing promotions without clear permission language.
Sometimes a simple consent flow is workable, but a generic template is often too broad or too vague once a business uses multiple channels, audience segments or follow-up campaigns. A standard checkbox may not reflect how you collect, use and share information across your actual marketing journey. We assess whether your current wording is likely to fit the way your business operates in practice. If the setup is more complex, the safer approach is usually to refine the wording and process together rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all template.
The fixed-fee covers the review and recommendations for your current direct marketing consent approach. If the review identifies changes that should be made to consent wording, forms or related privacy documents, we can discuss follow-on legal work separately. That next step is often useful where the issues are not limited to one statement and instead affect several customer touchpoints. The review itself does not include technical implementation, website changes, or ongoing management of your marketing compliance position over time.

We operate completely online, which means we can help you wherever you are in New Zealand. We have office spaces in Sydney, and in Melbourne, but our use of technology allows our team members to work remotely from around the world. Our legal team are mostly based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. We also have a London office for Sprintlaw UK.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers, who are specialists in various areas of law and hold an Australian legal practising certificate. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand qualified lawyers and they do not currently hold a New Zealand practising certificate.
They provide legal services working remotely from Australia via our 'legal consultancy' model, through which (under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006) our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses provided they do not provide services in certain 'reserved' areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn a bit more about our 'legal consultancy' model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practice (being small business and startup law), we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to ensuring that we provide high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team have all trained at leading firms, but have left the traditional corporate law world to join us on our mission to create a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
