The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU regulation on data protection and privacy within the EU and EEA. It regulates the personal data of EU residents, including how that data is collected, used, retained, transferred, and deleted.
The GDPR doesn’t apply only to EU businesses. It can apply to any business that processes or collects personal data from an individual who resides in the European Union.
Examples of New Zealand businesses that may need to comply with the GDPR include:
- New Zealand businesses with an office in the EU
- New Zealand businesses that target EU customers, such as by allowing customers to order goods or services in a European language other than English, or offering payment in Euros
- New Zealand businesses whose website refers to EU customers or users, for example in testimonials or reviews
Our fixed-fee GDPR packages start at $1,200 + GST. This includes preparing a guidance document outlining your GDPR obligations, as well as phone consultations with a Sprintlaw lawyer who can advise you on the legal issues that apply to you and answer your questions.

Your legal consultant will then send you an email with more information about the services you need, along with a fixed-fee quote setting out the costs, scope of work and timing. If you’re happy with the scope, you can accept and sign our engagement letter online.
Once you’ve formally accepted, we’ll connect you with a specialist lawyer who will work with you to complete your project. They’ll contact you by email or phone if needed.
