What’s in a Privacy Policy?
A Privacy Policy discloses the way your business handles personal information. It sets out what personal information you collect, and how that information will be used by you and/or disclosed to third parties.

A Privacy Policy is required by law if you collect the personal information of users. We also recommend having one in place even if you’re not required by law, as it is good practice to do so anyway. The Google algorithm update now includes TrustRank that scans your website privacy policy to generate a trust score. Not having an updated Privacy Policy can negatively impact your page ranking.
Our Privacy Policies are consistent with the Privacy Principles embedded in the Privacy Act. We can also provide a GDPR friendly Privacy Policy if requested.
A Privacy Policy is a legal document which usually lives in the footer of a website, available to view by anyone who visits. You may also know these as privacy notices or privacy statements.
It’s basically a notice saying that you will respect their privacy, make sure their personal information is kept private, and their contact information is not misused. It allows you to remain transparent with your users or customers about how you’re collecting their information, how it is being stored and any third parties that it is being disclosed to.
Under the Privacy Act, there are certain requirements and wording that you must comply with.
All New Zealand websites should ideally have a Privacy Policy, however, it is compulsory to have one if you collect any type of personal information.
If you collect anything like their email, phone number, their home or work address, or payment information you should definitely have a Privacy Policy.
Our fixed-fee Privacy Policy packages start at $400 + GST. This package includes a Privacy Policy drafted for general use on your website, and a phone consultation with Sprintlaw’s legal team who can answer your questions about the document.
Just submit an enquiry via this page or click the ‘get started’ button on our website to submit an enquiry. After you’ve submitted an enquiry, one of our legal consultants will review your enquiry within 1 business day and get in touch to get a better idea of exactly what you are looking for.
Then your legal consultant will send through an email with a bit more information about the services you need, along with a fixed-fee quote setting out costs, scope of the service and timing. Have a read through it, and if you’re happy with the scope, you can accept and sign our engagement letter online – easy!
Once you’ve formally accepted, we’ll connect you with a specialist lawyer and they will work with you to complete your project. They will contact you by email or phone if they need to get in touch.
