FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.

Broadly, ESSs (Employee Share Schemes) involve issuing shares directly to employees, while ESOPs give employees the opportunity to acquire shares in their company through a share option plan. However, there are several more nuanced differences between the two. There may also be tax and concession benefits you’ll need to be aware of, particularly in light of the 2015 reforms. Our team is happy to talk you through the differences and help you decide which option is best for your business.

As part of our ESOP Review Package, our expert lawyers will carry out a high-level review of your ESOP agreement. This includes a phone consultation with one of our lawyers, who will talk you through the key points of your agreement and help ensure you’re legally protected.

Please note that this is a time-based, consult-only package. It does not include a comprehensive review of the documents, any formal written advice, or negotiations for changes to the documents.

Our fixed-fee ESOP Review packages start at $900 + GST. This includes a review of your ESOP Agreement and phone consultations with our expert lawyers.

Our legal team is made up of experienced commercial lawyers with strong backgrounds in contracts, privacy, employment, intellectual property, corporate, and general business law. For Sprintlaw NZ, legal services are provided by Australian- and UK-qualified lawyers who are familiar with the New Zealand legal requirements relevant to the business matters we support.
