Our fixed-fee Trade Mark Headstart Packages start at $900 + GST. This includes an application to register your trade mark, phone consultations with a Sprintlaw lawyer, and IPONZ fees associated with registering your trademark.
A trade mark is a form of intellectual property protection in New Zealand. It lets you register your rights to a recognisable sign, design or expression of your brand. You can apply for a trade mark for your business name, logo or even a catchphrase.
If you want to protect the name of your brand, product or service, it’s a good idea to think about registering a trade mark as early as possible. A successful trade mark application gives you the exclusive right to use that brand name, logo or catchphrase for 10 years in New Zealand. Your registered trade mark can also be renewed every 10 years.
This means you can enforce that right against anyone else who uses your trade mark in New Zealand for those goods or services, even if they’re based overseas.
Simply submit an enquiry through this page or click the ‘get started’ button on our website. Once you’ve submitted your enquiry, one of our legal consultants will review it within 1 business day and get in touch to better understand what you’re looking for.
Your legal consultant will then send you an email with more information about the services you need, along with a fixed-fee quote setting out the costs, scope of the service and timing. If you’re happy with the scope, you can accept and sign our engagement letter online.
Once you’ve formally accepted, we’ll connect you with a specialist lawyer who will work with you to complete your project. They’ll contact you by email or phone if needed.
We operate completely online, which means we can help you wherever you are in New Zealand.
We have office spaces in Sydney and Melbourne, and our use of technology allows our team members to work remotely from around the world. Our legal team is mostly based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. We also have a London office for Sprintlaw UK.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers who specialise in various areas of law and hold Australian legal practising certificates. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand-qualified lawyers, and they do not currently hold New Zealand practising certificates.
They provide legal services remotely from Australia through our ‘legal consultancy’ model. Under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses, provided they do not provide services in certain ‘reserved’ areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn more about our ‘legal consultancy’ model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practise, being small business and startup law, we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to providing high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team has trained at leading Australian firms, but left the traditional corporate law world to join us in creating a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
