FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.

Your options may include:

  • Incorporated Societies
  • Company limited by guarantee
  • Non-trading co-operatives
  • Indigenous corporations
  • Unincorporated structures such as a trust

The best structure for your charity will depend on what you plan to do, who you are trying to benefit, where you want to operate, and what assets you intend to own. A legal expert can help you choose the structure that best suits your charity.

Depending on the type of NFP organisation you have, different tax concessions may be available, and the process for accessing each one can vary. In addition to tax registrations, your organisation may need other licences, permits or registrations to operate. A legal expert will work with your organisation to identify any tax concession entitlements based on your structure.

Our fixed-fee Charity Set Up packages start at $1,200 + GST. This includes phone consultations with our expert legal team, assistance with the registration process, for example with Charities Services, and answers to any legal questions you might have. Our legal experts have experience working with a range of NFP organisations, so we’re always happy to help.

Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers who specialise in different areas of law and hold Australian legal practising certificates. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand-qualified lawyers, and they do not currently hold New Zealand practising certificates.

They provide legal services remotely from Australia through our ‘legal consultancy’ model. Under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, our Australian legal team is permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses, provided they do not provide services in certain ‘reserved’ areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn more about our ‘legal consultancy’ model.

Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practise, being small business and startup law, we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to providing high-quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.

Our legal team trained at leading Australian firms before leaving the traditional corporate law world to join us in creating a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
