Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
This service is commonly used by businesses selling or promoting products that refer to health, wellness or therapeutic effects, including supplements, skincare, devices and related consumer products. It can be useful whether the claims appear on packaging, websites, social posts, ads or brochures. A review is especially worthwhile if you are launching a new product, refreshing your branding, or moving from general wellbeing language into more specific outcome-based statements. Even small wording changes can affect risk where a claim starts to imply treatment, prevention or medical efficacy.
Risk often arises when marketing language goes further than the available support for the claim, or when ordinary promotional wording starts to suggest a medical or therapeutic outcome. Examples include absolute statements, implied treatment claims, before-and-after messaging, or disclaimers that do not really cure the main impression created by the ad. Context matters as much as the headline. A phrase on packaging may carry a different risk profile when repeated on a website alongside testimonials, images or stronger explanatory copy. That is why the review looks at the claim in the material where it actually appears.
The fixed-fee covers review of up to 5 product or marketing claims used in your materials, a written compliance report setting out key issues and practical recommendations, and a consultation call to discuss the findings and next steps. We can review claims appearing across packaging, websites, labels or promotional content, depending on what you want prioritised. The service does not include technical implementation, ongoing representation, security remediation or tax advice. If you later want help rewriting broader marketing content or reviewing additional claims, that can be scoped separately.
Templates and internal approval checklists can be useful for consistency, but they often miss the context that makes therapeutic claims difficult. The legal risk is not only in the words themselves. It can also sit in how the claim is paired with images, testimonials, product names, disclaimers and surrounding copy. A tailored legal review helps test whether the overall impression of the material creates a problem, rather than only checking for obvious trigger words. That is particularly important where your product sits close to regulated health or treatment language.
If changes are recommended, the report will explain which claims raise concern, why they are risky, and what sort of amendment may be worth considering. In the follow-up call, we can talk through which points are highest priority and whether the issue is the wording itself, the evidence position, or the way the claim appears in the broader material. The review We will make the key issues clear so you can decide what to do next. with regulators or third parties. Further rewriting or additional review work can be arranged separately if needed.

We operate completely online, which means we can help you wherever you are in New Zealand. We have office spaces in Sydney, and in Melbourne, but our use of technology allows our team members to work remotely from around the world. Our legal team are mostly based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. We also have a London office for Sprintlaw UK.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers, who are specialists in various areas of law and hold an Australian legal practising certificate. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand qualified lawyers and they do not currently hold a New Zealand practising certificate.
They provide legal services working remotely from Australia via our 'legal consultancy' model, through which (under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006) our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses provided they do not provide services in certain 'reserved' areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn a bit more about our 'legal consultancy' model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practice (being small business and startup law), we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to ensuring that we provide high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team have all trained at leading firms, but have left the traditional corporate law world to join us on our mission to create a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
