Having your charity’s legal structure set up properly is the first step to getting started. Whether you want an incorporated structure (like an incorporated society or company limited by guarantee), or an unincorporated structure (like an unincorporated association), Sprintlaw can help.
Setting up your charity right from the start can save you huge headaches down the track, and give you the peace of mind to focus on what really matters – your cause!
The options include but aren’t limited to:
The structure that best suits your charity will depend on what you plan to do, who you are trying to benefit, where you wish to operate from and what assets you intend to own. This is where a legal expert can help you find the best structure for your charity.
Depending on the type of NFP organisation you have, different tax concessions are available and the process for accessing each concession varies. In addition to tax registrations, your organisation may need other licences, permits or registrations to operate.
A legal expert will work with your organisation to identify the entitlement to tax concessions based on your structure.
Our fixed-fee Charity Set Up packages start at $2300 + GST. It includes phone consultations with our expert legal team, assistance with the registration process (for example, with Charities Services) and answers to any legal questions you might have.
Our legal experts have experience working with a range of NFP organisations, so we’re always happy to help.
Our legal team is made up of experienced lawyers, who are specialists in various areas of law and hold an Australian legal practising certificate. None of our Sprintlaw lawyers are New Zealand qualified lawyers and they do not currently hold a New Zealand practising certificate. They provide legal services working remotely from Australia via our ‘legal consultancy’ model, through which (under section 6 and section 35 of the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006) our Australian legal team are permitted to provide legal services to New Zealand businesses provided they do not provide services in certain ‘reserved’ areas of law. You can read our FAQ page to learn a bit more about our ‘legal consultancy’ model.
Given the strong similarities between Australian and New Zealand law, and the areas of law in which we practice (being small business and startup law), we do not view the fact that our lawyers have not qualified in New Zealand as having any substantive impact on the quality of our service. We are committed to ensuring that we provide high quality, affordable legal services to all our New Zealand clients.
Our legal team have all trained at leading Australian firms, but have left the traditional corporate law world to join us on our mission to create a new and better way of delivering legal services. They have specialist expertise in technology law, intellectual property law, contract drafting and review, corporate law and commercial law.
We’re an award-winning, totally online legal provider. Forget the hassle of meeting face-to-face. Our top-trained legal team is ready to help wherever you are in New Zealand.
